Development & Production of a $25M Flight Simulator

  • Problem: A Washington, DC-based defense production company required a Senior Program Manager to lead a $25M development and production effort. With two Direct Commercial Sales (DCS) Firm Fixed Price (FFP) contracts, the company needed to coordinate a program team of 100 technical and non-technical personnel. They previously struggled with production waste and ensuring the on-time delivery of training simulators, which was critical for system performance test events with foreign customers.
  • Solution: In addition to managing the contract from inception to completion, the firm’s goals were redefined, additional team members were hired for the production team, and enhanced manufacturing standard operating procedures were developed for the team.
  • Results: The program management efforts allowed for the successful and timely delivery of training simulators for system performance test events with foreign customers. This was achieved within the allocated budget, enhancing the company’s reputation and operational efficiency. The structured improvements and integration efforts resulted in significant waste reduction and streamlined production processes.
